Tenerife is probably one of the most diverse holiday destinations you could wish for, having all the ingredients for that perfect holiday for families, singles and couples alike. The North and South of the island are quite dissimilar in style and appearance. In the north there's lush vegetation a rocky coast line and strong Canarian traditions, with a stylish and sophisticated night life. And the lively energetic south has a desert terrain, sandy beaches an uninhibited night life, bright lights and a cosmopolitan flavour.
The interior of the island is just as appealing, with huge Banana plantations, Almond orchards and magnificent Pine forests. The capital Santa Cruz with it's elegant old buildings, Botanical Gardens, Boutiques and street cafes makes for a very pleasant day out and is well worth a visit. Tenerife's heart is Mount Teide, the volcano is the highest point in Spain and casts the largest shadow in the world, sometimes capped with snow it is an unforgettable site. The surrounding landscape is said to resemble the surface of the moon, and has been used as a film location for movies such as Planet of the Apes and Star Wars.
A cable car runs to the top giving breathtaking views of the island; and on clear days the near by islands of La Gomera and La Palma. By day there is so much to do you will be spoilt for choice no matter where you choose to stay. With an almost perfect year round climate activities of all kinds are well catered for especially watersports, such as diving, surfing, snorkelling, sailing and fishing.
Docking facilities in the capital of Tenerife have improved dramatically with the opening of Marina del Atlantico in the very centre of the capital Santa Cruz. Outside of Santa Cruz there are good facilities at the marinas at Radazul, Los Gigantes and Puerto Colon. The ferry port at Los Cristianos also has haul-out and repair facilities.

This attractive marina fronts the large resort of Playa de las Americas, a few miles west of Los Cristianos. The curved breakwater gives good protection to the small harbour, and an esplanade and pier make it a pleasant place for an evening stroll. Breakwaters have also been built close by to protect the beaches.

The marina lies below apartment blocks built on the side of the high cliffs, which are conspicuous from far away. The entrance is narrow, and yachts must proceed around the western end of the outer breakwater. It is not advisable to enter in rough weather, although once inside the marina is well-protected.

Yachts berth in the fishing harbour some three miles north of the city. During the high season it is advisable to reserve in advance. It is also possible to berth on the northernmost quay of the fishing harbour, which is administered by the Port Authority; a few yachts prefer this low-cost option, despite the lack of facilities.
