Marbella is just 60 kms away from Malaga Airport and Malaga City and is the real jewel of the entire Costa del Sol.
Many people get confused when they stay in Marbella because Marbella is both a town and an area. The area includes well know resorts such as Calahonda and Puerto Banus whilst the Town is home to some great shops, a fantastic sea front promenade that is now 8kms long and an interesting and picturesque ?Old Town?. Marbella is both an area and a town. The area encompasses places like Puerto Banus and Calahonda but don?t forget to check out Marbella Town itself.
From the sea front in Marbella you can see over the Mediterranean to Morocco and Gibraltar whilst behind the town is a towering mountain called La Concha (Seashell) as in resembles an upside down seashell.
The main old town of Marbella is set around the Town hall in Plaza Los Naranjos. This for me is the real Marbella, pavement cafes and outdoor restaurants all jostling for position under orange trees and great tropical plants.
The streets that surround Plaza Los Naranjos are filled with boutiques and art shops that make way for what seems like 100s of tapas a bar as nighttime comes.
You can also find many of the larger shops such as Mango, Zara and Massimo Dutti on the main street (Ricardo Sorriano) that runs through Marbella Town.
If you feel like exploring you can be in Gibraltar within 30 minutes and if you visit is over the winter months of November through to March you could head off up to Granada and visit the Sierra Nevada mountains that house Europe?s most southern ski resort.
