From rugged mountains with deep canyons to lush green forests and wide sandy beaches, Gran Canaria has it all.
The highest peak on Gran Canaria and the second highest point on the Canary Islands is Pico Del Nieves which rises to almost 2000m and can often be found with a snow capped peak or surrounded by clouds.
The capital of Gran Canaria is Las Palmas which is full of colourful painted houses a large Gothic Cathedral that is well worth a trip to.

Gran Canaria is also a place for beach lovers and the best and most well know beach on the island is Las Maspalomas, a 6km long sandy beach that can reach up to 1km wide at certain points.
Mytravellite, Monarch and British Airways all offer regular scheduled flights from the UK to Gran Canaria as do many of the large charter airline companies including Britannia and Thomas Cook.
From Gran Canaria airport it is fairly easy to get to the main tourist resorts of the south (5kms) and of course Las Palmas (25kms).
