All journeys to and from Formentera Island in the Balearics must be made be sea. If you are flying from anywhere in Europe or the UK then you must fly into Ibiza, Palma or Menorca and catch connecting ferries to take you to Formentera.
Ibiza is the best Island to head for as they have direct ferries throughout the day to Formentera. Simply step off the plane, grab a taxi and head for the main port in Ibiza.
The journey between Ibiza and Formentera should take around 30-60 minutes depending on which ferry you catch and obviously how the weather is.
For those of you who are heading up from the southern end of Spain you should head for Denia. During the summer you can catch the Wednesday ferry from Denia to Formentera and this should take around 4-5 hours.
To get to Denia on the Costa Blanca you need to fly into Alicante, Murcia or Valencia.
Barcelona is also an option but to get from Barcelona to Formentera you need to get a ferry to Ibiza and then change for the ferry to Formentera.
The wisdom of whether to rent a car on Formentera should be questioned as the island is so small but if you take the plunge you could be richly rewarded by finding deserted and secluded beaches that the car less traveler simply can?t find or get to.
