With an extensive palm groove that is home to over 200,000 date producing palm trees, Elche is also the third most populated area of the Valencia area.
Full of history and culture but little known outside Spain, Elche offers an alternative holiday from its busier and more robust neighbors of Alicante and Benidorm.
Elche?s 12 kms of coastline are around 15 minutes away from the City centre and are split into 2 different areas. The beach area to the north known as El Altet and a complete contrast to the pine tree and sand dune backed beaches of the south.
You can reach Elche by flying into the International Airport at Alicante which is only 15kms from Elche. As an alternative you could try checking out the flights and airlines that are using the lesser known Murcia Airport. Although quite a treck from Elche (60kms) it could be that there are better priced or simply more convenient flights to Murcia on offer.
As a tourist base Elche is great, it?s very easy to travel the whole of the Costa Blanca from Elche, for example both the aforementioned Benidorm and Alicante are close by. Benidorm in particular is home to the theme park, Terra Mittica which provides a great family day out.
If driving in Spain is something that you would seriously consider then our advice is to prebook your car hire for collection on arrival at either Alicante or Murcia Airport. The best Rentacar offers are generally available from the Airports where competition is intense.
