The Sierra Nevada Mountains loom over the Costa Tropical from the north, the sea is to the south and the popular Costa del Sol can be found to the west.
On the whole the Costa Tropical has escaped the over development and mass tourism for which the Costa del Sol is famous and has managed to stay relatively unknown outside of Spain.
The towns that do get the visits from the tourists are generally Motril, Almunecar, Salobrena and La Herradura.
The Costa Tropical is a rich farming area were farmers mainly produce fruits, nuts and Olives. If you head towards Salobrena you will also find large sugar plantations and Spains last remaining sugar refinery.
The best way to get to the Costa Tropical is to fly into Granada Airport or Malaga Airport. Granada has just started to receive daily flights from Liverpool and Luton, courtesy of Ryanair but apart from this there is hardly any other flights from the UK.
Malaga on the other hand just keeps getting busier and in 2004 over 12,000,000 passengers passed through its doors.
If you are flying to either of these airports then be prepared for a lengthily transfer. Granada to La Herradura for example will take an hour and from Malaga 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Unfortunately there arent any trains that go along the Costa Tropical so the only transfer options available are via a slow bus that involves changing along the way, a taxi or by driving your own hire car.
We believe that the cheapest and quickest is by hiring a car and if you would like an instant quote then please go through toCar-Hire.es . We have always found that they have a good selection of cars at good prices.
