Forming part of the Region of Andalucia the Costa Almeria is located on the south eastern tip of Spain.
Mojacar and Roquetas de Mar are the larger tourist towns on the Costa Almeria and in recent years Mojacar has become the town with the largest number of foreign residents.
As with many other parts of Spain agriculture and fishing play a large part in both the wealth of the area and day to day living.
Fishing in particular is extremely important to many parts of the Costa Almeria none other than Garrucha where the fishing industry employs a large number of local people and generates up to 50% of the local wealth.
Garrucha is also known throughout Spain as the City of Prawns because of the large number of prawns that are caught and landed her each year.
Another town along the Costa Almeria, Vera, is home to one of Spains largest Nudist Beaches which now even has its own specialist hotel.
Flights to the Costa Almeria fly directly into Almeria International Airport but you can also fly into Murcia Airport which is a little further to the north of the Costa Almeria.
Both of these airports have now started to receive regular flights from many different European low cost airlines including Easyjet, Flybe and Ryanair.
Whichever airport you choose to fly into the transfer distances to and around the Costa Almeria can be quite large and we recommend hiring a car rather than relying on public transport or expensive taxis.
We have always found that Car-Hire.es offer the best rates on rental cars on the Costa Almeria.
