(Ibiza) Morna International College, a co-educational day school was founded in 1973 as Morna Valley School and enrolls students of some 15 nationalities. Well qualified teachers, mostly from the United Kingdom, work with small classes and the very favourable student: teacher ratio ensures a high degree of individual attention. High standards of work and behaviour are demanded at all times. However the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and there is no school uniform.
MIC is currently situated on an attractive rural campus near San Carlos at the eastern end of the island, The Primary Section occupies purpose-built classrooms while the Secondary is housed in a converted finca. There is a well-equipped Science Laboratory and Computer Room. An international library with books, videos and CD roms is currently being developed. A very popular catering service provides lunches and break-time snacks, though students are free to bring their own refreshments.
A new site has been purchased in the centre of the island and the school will gradually move to an entirely purpose-built facility as soon as government formalities permit.
The academic programme closely follows the National Curriculum (England & Wales). Secondary students are prepared for the International General Certificate of Education at the age of 16 and the General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level, at 18. These examinations are validated by the Local Examinations Syndicate of the University of Cambridge, England. The College is subject to regular inspection by NABSS and the Spanish Ministry of Education. Secondary students receive specialist advice on career and university options.
The principal language of instruction is English, but a notable feature of the Morna programme is that all students study both Spanish and German at least to IGCSE level. There is additional language and learning support for students who need it.
There is an increasing range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Extensive sporting options are offered via two local sports centres. Both Primary and Secondary students have the opportunity to participate in annual theatre productions, to learn to play musical instruments and to work on such projects as the Yearbook.
Prospective parents are most welcome to visit the school.
