Platja Gran beach, is also called Fornells beach, Playa de Fornells lies 2 miles out of town in the bay of Cala Tirant. Its villas reflect the local architectural style and many of its gardens are a riot of assorted cactus. It has its own small beach, and a footpath leads round to the larger beach at Cala Tirant, where you can hire sunloungers, parasols and pedaloes.
Fornells makes a good base for excursions to some of the wilder north coast beaches, such as the long, curving sands of Binimel-là or its neighbour Cala Pregonda, accessible only by foot. A bumpy car drive takes you to Cap de Cavalleria, the island?s northernmost tip, which offers breathtaking sea views.
