Porto Cristo is still a typical Spanish fishing village, perfect when you want to get away from it all. It?s a very quiet resort, but if you want more lively nightlife then Cala Millor is only a short taxi ride away. According to local legend, Porto Cristo got its name when two oxen ? who were supposed to be carrying an icon of Christ to Palma ? both stopped here and refused to move any further. So the icon stayed, and the town was renamed in its honour. There?s a strip of bars and clubs by the marina, but they?re only open on Friday and Saturday nights. That?s also when all the locals tend to descend on Porto Cristo, so everything has a very Spanish feel.
