At the Northwest of the canaries archipelago lies the island of La Palma, also known as la isla bonita (the beautiful island) or the green island, because of its exuberant forests and other extraordinary natural beauties. Like the rest of the Canary islands and the rest of the archipelagos that form La Macaronesia, La Palma's origin is volcanic. La Palma is very different from the other Canary islands in that it has lush vegetation and running streams in some of its barrancos (valleys). There are only basic facilities in the island of La Palma, which has good provisioning and some repair facilities.
