Sanitas in Spain have a wide range of health care products on offer including one specifically designed to meet the needs of the high number of UK Expats that are now living in Spain.
Sanitas are actually part of BUPA which is a household name back in the UK but I believe that the Spanish system and the cover on offer is superior to that offered back in England.
For example in the UK you will generally require a referral from your GP before a BUPA approved private doctor will see you.
In Spain it is far simpler, once the policy is in force you are given a Sanitas magnetic swipe card, similar to a credit card. Each time you need treatment or go along to any of their medical centers you present your card for swiping, sign the receipt and your done!
No need for a referral and if you just need to go along to a Medical Center there is no need for an appointment either.
Sanitas offer the Sanitas Health Plan for Expats, its a pretty comprehensive policy that has three different levels of cover.
The Sanitas Basic Plan covers your primary health care with access to a network of Doctors and private clinics.
The Sanitas Classic Plan covers all the above plus in-patient treatment, surgery and hospital accommodation. It also provides you with the opportunity of obtaining a free, second medical opinion from a range of Specialists.
The Sanitas Complete Plan is designed to be just that. It offers cover in Spain and 90% cover home country together with a whole range of extras.
