Linea Directa in Spain is part of the Direct Line insurance company back in the UK and is able to offer Car Insurance on Spanish Vehicles for Expats.

The benefits of Insuring your car with Linea Directa (and I do!) is that you can deal with English speaking support staff and receive your policy documents in English.

Linea Directa operates in a similar manner to Direct Line in the UK in that you can get immediate cover over the telephone. I would like to be able to recommend you to their website but at the time of writing this they only had a Spanish Version. Linea Directa will not insure a car in Spain on English number plates; in fact I dont think any companies here in Spain will do that now.

If you do have a car on English or Non-Spanish plates then you need to insure it in your home country. I have heard that there are Insurance Brokers in Gibraltar who are able to insure UK registered cars in Spain but I have not been able to find one to recommend.

If you do have a car on Non Spanish plates and want to insure it through Linea Directa then you will need to re-register the car in Spain.

Registering the car in Spain will require some expenses and this is in the form of a tax against the value of the vehicle. The last time I looked into this I think the total costs came out at 12% of the current value of the vehicle.

We actually found that it was far easier just to buy a Spanish Car and insure it through someone like Linea Directa rather than go through all the hassle.
