Girona Airport or Gerona Airport as it is also known, is around 1 hour and 20 minutes drive north of Barcelona. Over the last few years the passenger traffic at Girona Airport has been transformed by the arrival of Ryanair.
In the mid 1990s passenger levels had shrunk to under 300,000 visitors per year which was way off the mark form its record years during the 1980s and 1970s when up to 1,500,000 people passed through its doors.
These passenger number are well and truly on the up and one of the attractions of the airport is its proximatey to Barcelona Airport and the Costa Brava.
Getting from the Airport to your choosen Holiday destination can be a bit of a chore as there is only a limited bus service and the catching the train involves heading in to Girona Town centre first.
In our opinion the easiest way to transfer out of Gerona Airport is by organizing your own Girona Airport Rent A Car.
If however you prefer to catch the bus from Girona Airport to Barcelona here are the details:
The Girona to Barcelona Bus
The Barcelona bus is one of the easiest ways of getting to and from Girona Airport and Barcelona. Although the Bus service is not run by Ryanair the timetables for the buses are scheduled to match the departure times of the Ryanair flights. There is no reason to suspect that this would ever change as the Ryanair flights are what keep the Bus company in business but you should check the Barcelona Bus Timetables before you travel.
The Buses arrive and depart from Placa Sant Joan and from here it is easy to catch the Metro for the remainder of your journey.
