Hi there, I understand how worried you must be, I have seen it many times. I am a translator in Oliva on the Costa Blanca, and this September I put my 34th child into school over here. I have never seen any child of 5 years old struggle. I must confess that children of 13/14 years do struggle, they are that bit older, and in all honesty, children seem to stay children for longer in Spain, so the 14 yr old english child is a lot more mature it seems.
It will be hard for you at first, but you will find that within a couple of months your child will speak more spanish than you, you will see them singing spanish songs and able to watch spanish tv programmes. I Promise!
My son is 2 1/2, he goes to a spanish nursery school and comes home speaking spanish, valenciano and english! Although he was actually born here, i speak english to him at home, to make sure he doesnt lose this language, a distinct possibility!
In my opinion I would worry more that your child will lose the english, make sure you spend lotas of time with them at home reading and writing in English!
If you have any questions, just give me a shout and I will answer them for you.
Good luck with everything

We want to move over to Majorca for few years soon, my main concern is my 5 year old being able to adapt to a spanish school, I have been told plenty of times by people that live over there that this would be the best thing for her , i am just a little conerned that she will hate it, how is she going to communicate with the teachers and other children, will there be other english speaking children there? any personal experiances would be reaaly appriciated.
