Hello we're a family of four hoping to move next spring to the baza/iznajar area and start a walkers hostel/b+b type business. Are these successful in this area?
Have you considered the Ebro Valley in Tarragona? There are some beautiful properties with land at very reasonable prices and some in the foothills of the mountains. Hot, (but not too hot) in summer and mild winters. Look at www.go-to-spain.com
Dear all,
If you are interested in a quiet area for retirement, Axarquia is a good possibility: there are rural houses, town houses or farm; in the country or in the coast.
You can see properties in this zone, for example, in www.al-andalusrealestate.com
I am looking for a 3/4 bedroom property with water, electricity and about 1 hectare of land. I accept that to avoid paying the earth I need to look inland which will involve 1000 metres or more in altitude. At say 2000 metres what is the duration of the winter in say the Baza region and what sort of temperature profile is likely?
I would recommend you consider Las Alpujarras, a region of the Sierra Nevada. The weather is much more comfortable than the coast, although you will experience a Winter whose severity is likely to depend on the altitude of your property.
A good website and company to start your research with might be :

Hi, I would try and decide on an area first, there are so many mountainous regions of Spain but you could get a lot more for your money if you chose a region that was cooler and not on the coast. www.red2000.com is a good site with breakdowns of regional areas. Decide what region you like the sound of, then narrow it down by your other criteria ie do you want to be near a town, near the sea etc. I live in a mountain village near Gandia and it is very pleasant and definitely a lot cooler than in the valleys or on the coast itself! There are often problems with flooding and heavy rain though in the winter, and this is pretty common in mountainous areas.
