Jerez is around 40 minutes drive south of Seville and hosts the enormous Feria de Caballo (Jerez Horse Fair) each year. You can also reach Jerez from Faro in Portugal (2 hours) and Malaga (2 hours).
The event is visited by many thousands of people who flock to Jerez to see amazing displays of horsemanship.
The festival also doubles up as a large Agricultural Fair and there are a large number of bullfighting and Flamenco shows running throughout the fair.
Jerez is actually famous for two things, sherry and horses and although the two things shouldnt go hand in hand they do.
The Royal School of Equestrian Art is based in Jerez and the show they put on during the festival is the hightlight for many people.
The show incompasses all the great things about Andalucian horsemanship. Its basically a ballet that is performed by horses and they riders. Everything has to be perfect, each move must be precise.
Previously the only ways of getting to the Jerez Horse Fair from the UK would have involved fying into either Malaga or Seville Airports. Now however, more and more airlines are starting to offer direct flights into Jerez itself.
Ryanair for example fly to Jerez everyday throughout the year from Stansted.
Our other tipis to head south after the Jerez Horse Fair and explore the wonderful and little known Costa de Luz.
