Located just round Cabo de Santa Pola, this yacht club is busiest during the summer months and at the start of the tourist season. The sailing school specialises in teaching children and its lineup includes mostly optimist class boats. Both the yacht club and the port offer the attraction of the charming Island of Tabarca, which can be reached from here. It is an important marine reserve with clear transparent water for bathing or diving to discover the rich seabed.
Running from north to south, the Santa Pola coastline begins with two peaceful, natural beaches and continues with two wide, fine sand beaches stretching along, apart from at the port, as far as the cape of the same name. Secluded and attractive coves nearby which are also perfect for diving - are a paradise for first-rate windsurfers. Between the cape and the port lie Varadero and Levante beaches bordered by a promenade. Boats sail between the port and Tabarca Isle about three kilometres away. Further to the south there are four urban beaches of a more lively nature, particularly the ever-popular Gran Playa beach. Santa Pola has two diving centres, a dinghy school in the yacht club and windsurf and catamaran rental facilities on Levante, Gran Playa and Tamarit beaches.
The town of Elx - also known as the palm grove of Europe with more than 400 hectares of palm-tree groves - has a coastline of over 9 km of long beaches, most of which - despite having full facilities - are set in beautiful unspoilt settings. Furthest to the north lie two natural beaches with fine sand and clear waters, plus another, more popular, semiurban beach known as Arenales del Sol. The four beaches further south are more exotic and natural in appearance being delimited by an interesting strip of sand dunes belonging to the Elx-Guardamar sand dune system. These beaches are the perfect setting for water sports, with two diving centres that organise dives off Tabarca Isle and other spots along the Costa Blanca. La Finca Algorfa Golf complements the sports alternatives.
