Cadiz stands on a peninsula jutting out into a bay, and is almost entirely surrounded by water. Named Gadir by the Phoencians, Cadiz was later controlled by the Carthaginians, until it became a thriving Roman port. Chiclana de la Frontera is located in the Andalusian province of Cadiz. Chiclana is situated in the south of the Gaditanian Bay, its coast is washed by the Atlantic Ocean.
