Golfers visiting Almerimar can look forward to Golf Almerimar a course of wide fairways, with a profusion of trees and plants which afford plenty of shade and, at the same time, serve as natural hazards, protecting the fast greens. The course was designed during the period that Gary Player had just embarked on a second career in golf course architecture and was working in association with the experienced Ron Kirby. The layout is unquestionably American in style and makes for an enjoyable round.
Situated 8 kms along the coast, this is a popular resort for tourists with some good beaches. The salt lagoons begin at Las Marinas 4kms south of Roquetas and are a good vantage point to watch the magnificent flamingos and other water birds in just about every season. Roquetas de Mar puts its climate too good use and has produced fine courses Club de Golf La Envia with its relaxed and easy going pace, and Club de Golf Playa Serena a punishing championship course.
The city of Almeria is located at the foot of a mountain range which is crowned by the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Calph of Cordoba, Abd-erRahman 111 with three huge walled enclosures. Dating from the 16th century, it was built during an era when the southern Mediterranean was terrorised by the raids of Barbarossa and other North African pirate forces. Almeria is close to Club de Golf La Envia and Club de Golf Playa Serena in Roquetas de Mar, and Golf Almerimar further south.
San Jose is a delightful small township of 175 souls in Almeria province, nowadays proving increasingly popular as a holiday resort. It is located around a shallow bay towards the south end of Cabo de Gata. There is a refreshing lack of high-rise development here, and the town has sandy streets, a natural park and one of the finest beaches on the Cabo de Gata located along a dirt road to the southwest of town.
A lively village & beach resort located south from Mojácar along the coast road. The scenic Mojácar-Carboneras road itself winds perilously through the hills some way inland, and offers only occasional access to some tempting beaches. Further north you can enjoy the golf facilities in nearby Mojacar with Club de Golf Cortijo Grande and Club Marina Golf Mojacar, and in Vera the spectacular Desert Springs Golf Club and Valle del Este Resort.
