(Lanzarote) The Colegio Hispano Británico, (The British School in Puerto del Carmen, P.O. Box 228, Arrecife de Lanzarote; Telephone 0103428 173066; Headmaster: Roger Deign B.Sc.). Founded in 1976, the school accepts children between the ages of three and 19 with a maximum of 250 children.

It is situated in a quiet countryside position a mile behind the San Antonio Hotel in Puerto del Carmen. Facilities include four laboratories taking Biology, Chemistry and Physics to "A" Level and covering Technology and Computer Studies. Students quickly become bilingual and the school offers German as a third language. It has a multisports area with three tennis courts convertible to volleyball, football or athletics a separate basket ball area, a playground with climbing frames for youngsters, a well-stocked library, dining room facilities, its own minibus transport and ten acres of grounds.

The school is a fully authorised Centre for GCSE, GCE ("A" Level and "O" Level) and IGCSE, (Cambridge, MEG and London Boards). It is also a Centre for Open University examinations, has a combined authorisation by British Inspectors and the Spanish Ministry of Education and is a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain. Since 1979 exam pass rates have been between 80% and 95% even though students are allowed to sit examinations at a very young age. Twenty one different subjects have been passed at GCSE level and eight at Advanced Level and all school leavers are expected to obtain University places with past students being placed in Oxford, London, Manchester, other and continental Universities. Fees per term depend on child 's age.
