 The largest and busiest Airport on the Canary Islands is by quite a long way Tenerife.
Passengers numbers currently stand at around 9,000,000 but the Spanish Airport Authority, Aena, estimate that passenger traffic at Tenerife Airport will increase to 12,800,000 by the year 2015.
Most of the tourists come from Germany and the UK but there are also a high number of passengers from the Spanish Mainland.
There are flights to Tenerife from the UK with several large airlines including British Airways, Monarch Airlines and My Travel lite. You may also be able to find a large number of charter airlines who offer flights to Tenerife from many different UK airports.
The actual time of the flights to Tenerife is around 4 hours but you do not have to change your watches as the Canary Islands are on the same time zone as the UK.
The rest of the Island is easy to transfer to from Tenerife Airport and you have the choice of catching the bus, or taxi as there are no trains at Tenerife Airport.
Tenerife Airport also has the usual selection of shops and cafes where you can go and buy some perfume, cigarettes or alcohol but Tenerife has different duty free allowances to the rest of the EU and mainland Spain.
In our opinion the easiest way to get around the island and to transfer from the airport is via your own rental car.
