A large, ancient, Moorish Castle sits on top of a huge rock that looms over the town of Salobrena which you can find on the Costa Tropical in Southern Spain. To reach Salobrena you must fly into Granada or Malaga Airport.
Granada Airport is the closer Airport to fly into and is around a forty five minute drive away. Unfortunately there arent many direct flights from the UK to Granada Airport so unless you are prepared to change planes your only direct routes are from Liverpool or Luton.
Malaga Airport on the other hand is about a 90 minute drive from Salobrena but handles a huge amount of flights from all over the world on a daily basis.
The only quick ways of transferring from either airport to Salobrena is either by airport taxi or by driving your own car.
Once you are at Salobrena you will find a comfortable, Spanish Town that is surrounded by lush, sub tropical orchards and Sugar Plantations. Its history goes back to the Roman times and the large Moorish castle was built in the 10thC.
The tourist information office in the town is a gold mine of resources and one of the best ways to understand the towns history is by taking advantage of the private guided tours that they offer.
From Salobrena you can easily reach most parts of the Costa Tropical and you can even drive up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains and from October-November find yourselves skiing on Europes southern most ski resorts.
Whether you choose to just sit and relax on the beach or explore the whole coast the best way of transferring to and from the airport and getting around are by having your own car.
