Located at the very eastern edge of the Costa del Sol and with a backdrop of the Sierra Almijara Mountains, Nerja offers a refreshing change from the more visited and popular western Costa del Sol.
To find Nerja you turn left as you leave the Airport and bypass Malaga City before heading back to the coast road that runs for around 60kms east to Nerja.
The best way of getting to Nerja from the Airport is by rental car, taxi or private airport transfer. You should allow an hour for the journey.
The most photographed point of Nerja is the Balcon de Europa, or Balcony of Europe. Perched on the site of an old Moorish Castle the Balcon de Europe juts out over the cliffs and gives the most amazing and unrivalled views over the Mediterranean Sea.
The rest of Nerja has changed very little and retains a lot of the character and atmosphere of the bustling Spanish Town that it is. You will also find less traces of overdevelopment here than the rest of the Costa del Sol. No trip o Nerja is complete without a trip to the ancient caves that are located around 3 kms away from the Town. Said to be over 20,000 years old the caves also host live concerts throughout the year and if one is on when you are there then savor this unique experience. Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges are within easy day trip distance from Nerja and if you are there in the months of November- March you can sun bathe in the morning and ski in the Sierra Nevada during the afternoon!
