Around 50,000 people live in Motril and it is the biggest town on Spains Costa Tropical. The Costa Tropical forms the eastern end of the Andalucia Region.
Motril is surrounded by excellent farming land that produces a large quantity and selection of Fruits and Vegetables. Fruits including Bananas, Mangos and Avocados are all grown in the areas surround Motril.
Motril itself is an old Spanish town where siestas are still observed and the main Town Hall which was constructed in 1631 is worth a visit.
Motril also has a busy port area with a fishing fleet and large Ferry boats that make daily trips back and forwards to Morocco.
Motril is around 105 kms from Malaga City and 66 kms south of Granada. Both of these larger Cities have International Airports and it is here that you must fly to when heading for Motril.
If you want to fly into Granada Airport from the UK then you can fly direct from either Liverpool or London Stansted. Ryanair have just started a daily service to Granada from both of these airports.
If you would like to fly to Malaga Airport from the UK then you have the choice of flying from over 23 different UK Airports. The flights may be easier to get to Malaga but bear in mind that the transfer distance is a little longer.
You can transfer from either of these airports via taxi but there are no trains and the buses involve a change. Taxis will cost you around ¬70 from Granada and ¬120 euros from Malaga.
In our opinion it is cheaper to book your own car than to take a taxi. If you check Car-Hire.es with you will find some good cheap cars at either of the airports mentioned.
