 Mallorca?s smaller neighbour, Menorca (Minorca) quite literally translates into smaller island.
With a population of around 70,000 people and a length of only 50kms Menorca is also only 20 kms wide at its widest point.
Along with the other Balearic Islands Menorca has a good year long temperature with hot sunny summer days and mild winters. The Menorca crime rate is also very low and this provides both a pleasant and safe holiday experience.
The capital of Menorca is Mahon (Mao) and around a third of the islands population leave here. You will also find a large port and the islands airport in Mahon.
The main activity in Mahon is based on and around the buzzing port area where there are an abundance of pavement cafes and bars where you can just sit and watch the world go by. At night you can also find some superb fish restaurants around the port.
Within the main town area you can find shops and boutiques that suit all pockets and tastes. From designer shops with price tags to make you gasp through to the weekly food and fish markets where local produce and local goods can be found.
Menorca is also home to more beaches than Mallorca and Ibiza combined. In all there are 120 beaches of all shapes and sizes, some of which can only be reached by boat.
Flying into Menorca is a little harder than flying into say Mallorca or Ibiza. At the moment only British Airways, Monarch and Iberia offer regular scheduled flights but there are also a large number of charter flights to choose from as well.
