Morocco is only 70 miles (100kms) away from the coast of Lanzarote; it?s so close you can almost smell the hot, African soil. Lanzarote is part of the Canary Islands and in terms of size is the fourth largest Island. Lanzarote measures just 37 miles (60 kms) by 12 miles (20kms).
The weather in Lanzarote is superb all year round with very little rainfall and temperatures in the winter that rarely fall below 19C. In the summer you get long, hot summer days and evenings with an average temperature hovering around 29C in the warmest month of August.
In comparison to several other Canary Islands and parts of mainland Spain you will find the Lanzarote skyline more low rise than high rise. The Islands builders and developers are subject to some fairly strict planning and building regulations.
Lanzarote is a volcanic island and the landscape sometimes resembles something from another planet. The famous films Planet of the Apes where made here and many other film companies looking for lunar landscapes always check out Lanzarote.
Flights to Lanzarote can be found through any number of charter airlines and tour operators and Monarch Scheduled seems to be the only low cost, schedule carrier that offers regular flights to Lanzarote.
Flights times should be around four hours long and unlike most of Europe the time in Lanzarote doe not differ from those at home in the UK.
Although the Island is small it is still worth getting a rental car. This gives you the freedom to come and go as you please as well as the chance to get out and explore the hidden gems of Lanzarote.
In our experience the best provider of all Lanzarote rental cars are Holidays.co.uk
