The Costa Tropical which a little known area in Southern Spain has two main tourist towns, La Herradura and Almunecar.
La Herradura is situated to the south of Granada and the east of Malaga and forms part of the Province of Granada which in turn forms part of the region of Andalucia.
The Sierra Nevada Mountains, which are Spains highest, give a dramatic back drop to this part of the coast and you will discover many farming communities clinging onto the sides of deep valleys that produce a variety of Fruits, Nuts and Olives.
Over the winter period of November to March you are able to ski in the Sierra Nevada, in fact on some days you can ski in the morning and sun bathe in the afternoon.
There is a coastline of 19kms around La Herradura where you will find small coves and good sandy and single beaches.
Flights to Herradura mean flying into either Malaga Airport or Granada Airport. Both Airports are a fair way from La Herradura but Granada Airport is slightly closer (80kms). The only problem with Granada is lack of flights.
Malaga Airport on the other hand is has an enormous amount of flights arriving from all over the world on a daily basis. Malaga Airport is around 90-95 kms from la Herradura.
Whichever Airport you land at the best bet is to transfer by organizing a rental car. Taking a bus will involve a change and taxis are expensive. In fact return taxis may cost more than a rental car.
We have always found that Car-Hire.es offer a good selection of cars at a good prices at both airports.
