Known throughout the world for its fine sweet wines or Sherry as the British know it, Jerez de la Frontera is a wonderful Spanish Town that was once the frontier between the warring Christians and Moors.
You will find Jerez in the south western corner of Spain, right in the heart of some beautiful Andalucian countryside that are littered with vineyards producing the grapes that get their sweetness for the intense sun that you get in this area.
The British in particular have had a love affair with Sherry over the years and Jerez is still home to some of the most famous names in the business. Sandeman, Domecq and John Harvey are all still based in Jerez.
You can't visit Jerez without a trip to a dressage show by the wonderful Andalucian horses and the best place to see them in action is at The Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art. (Real Escuela Andaluza de Arte Equestre) you can call them on 0034 956 311111. They normally have a Thursday morning show.
Ryanair have direct flights into Jerez Airport from London Stansted but you could also fly from a huge number of UK Airports in Malaga Airport and then drive the 2½ hours up to Jerez.
Andalucia is the region of Spain where Jerez is located and the nearest stretch of coastline is the Costa de la Luz. The Costa de la Luz has some of the best beaches in Spain and is largely untouched by the mass tourism that heads for Andalucia's other coast the Costa del Sol.
Seville is also only a short distance from Jerez and can be reached within an hour. If you are staying in Jerez for longer than a couple of days then my advice is to head for Seville for the day, it's that good.
Without question the best way to get around the Jerez area is by having your own rental car. We have found that Car-Hire.es offer the best deals and rates for all car rentals in Jerez.
