The smallest of the inhabited Islands of the Balearics and does not have its own Airport. All journeys to and from Formentera must be made by boat.
The nearest Airports are on the other Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Palma but the easiest one to catch a ferry from is Ibiza.
You can fly into Ibiza from a large number of both European and UK Airports. After landing you need to leave the Airport terminal and head for the port. Here you are able to find a fairly good choice of boats that operate between Ibiza and Formentera on a regular basis. It?s a short journey of around 30-60 minutes depending on which type of boat you travel on.
If you are feeling a little adventurous or combining a trip to mainland Spain with a trip to Formentera then you could catch a ferry from Denia down on the Costa Blanca and head up to Formentera. The Denia-Formentera ferry usually takes around 4-5 hours and the only go on a Wednesday throughout the summer.
You could also catch a ferry from Barcelona and change at Ibiza.
As Formentera is such a small island you may question the wisdom of organizing a rental car but I believe that having the freedom of your own car allows you explore the true character of the island and if you are lucky you will probably find some deserted, sandy beaches that other people simply can?t to.
