Famed for an extensive Palm Grove with over 200,000 trees that produce a huge amount of dates over the winter period, Elche is also the 3rd most populated City or town in the Valencia Region.
Elche is steeped in history and culture and although relatively unknown outside of Spain it offers an interesting and refreshing alternative to its better known nieghbours of Alicante and Benidorm.
The 12kms of Coastline that belong to Elche are actually 15 minutes away from the City centre. Divided into two very different and distinctive areas Elche?s beaches comprise of the sand dune and pine tree backed beaches to the south and the beaches of Marina to the north.
Your best option for getting to Elche is to fly into Alicante International Airport which is only 15km away.
However if you are unable to find the right flights or airlines then you should look into flying to Murcia which is only 60kms (40 mins) away.
The whole length and breadth of the Costa Blanca is within easy reach of Elche and it is a good place to use as a base from which to explore this wonderful area from.
You could choose to simply wander the streets, visit all or some of the many monuments or if you are here in August, join in the fun and parties as August turns Elche into a town in celebration.
