Off the coast of Morocco and in the Atlantic Ocean the Canary Islands are part of Spain and yet offer a year round climate that most of us simply yearn for.
The Canaries are made up of seven main islands, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gomera, La Palma and Hierro. The population of 900,000 people is predominately spread across these seven islands although there are several smaller islands.
Mount Teide, Spain?s highest peak can be found looming above Tenerife and its peak which is at 12400 feet (3700m) can be seen disappearing into the clouds. On Gran Canaria you can also find the peak of Pico del Nieves which is 1949 metres high.
Each of the main Islands has its own International Airport but Tenerife is home to the sixth busiest Airport in Spain. There are between 8,500,000 and 9,000,000 people traveling through Tenerife Airport each year.
Lanzarote also has a busy airport with in the region of (5,500,000) passengers passing through its doors each year. Astonishingly 70% of all passengers that arrive at Tenerife come from Germany and the UK.
With there wonderful year round climate the Canary Islands are as popular in the winter as there are in the summer. The winter months are blessed with warm days that often reach between 18C and 20C. People from the UK and all over Europe flock here enjoy some much needed sun and warmth.
