A Typical Spanish Town where Siestas are still observed, Calpe is a nice little town with an extra bit on the end which is home to the fishing port and the huge rock that is so often seen in photos of Calpe, Rock of Ifach.
Rising out of the sea to around 332m high the summit of the Rock of Ifach can be reached through a serious of internal tunnels; although difficult the views from the top are amazing.
I enjoyed my stay in Calpe and found the contrast between the two sides of its peninsula interesting. On one side the beaches are made up of sandy coves with views over the sea to Benidorm, whilst the other side of the peninsula (500m) offered crystal clear seas on almost perfect white sandy beaches.
The beaches next to the fishing port were the ones set into a series of coves and although the water was shallow and sandy there were rocks in places. I found the beaches on the other side, next to the promenade to be calmer and safer in the three days we were there.
Backing onto the beaches the wide promenade is a perfect place for a stroll and there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars to offer you a place to stop and people watch.
If you like fish then head for the restaurants that surround the fishing port. Cooking fish that is caught each day means that the menu is constantly changing to meet with what the catch offers.
If you like exploring then Calpe is a perfect base from which to get out in your rentacar and have a closer look at the Costa Blanca.
