Almeria the City and the Province can be found on the south eastern tip of Spain. It can be confusing but Almeria is both a City and an area.

The City of Almeria has its own International Airport and a population in the region of 145,000 people.

Almeria the Province is part of the region of Andalucia and is home to more than 420,000. It's a large, varied area covering some 8000 sq/kms and has some of the best weather in Spain.

Almeria's claim to fame is that many films have been made here. Taking advantage of some inland areas which resemble deserts and lunar landscapes, films such as The Good The Bad And The Ugly and A Fist Full Of Dollars have been made here.

Not that many tourist find their way to Almeria and it is far quieter here than say the Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca. Those that do head here tend to stay in the main resorts which are Roquetas de Mar and Mojacar. Mojacar actually has the biggest ex pat community in Almeria Province.

Almeria the City is worth a visit, it's an old City in the mold of Granada and Cordoba and has a large Arabic Fortress, the Alcazaba as its main attraction.

If you are heading to Almeria then it is advisable to get a rental car as the area is large and the public transport services are not fantastic.
