Motril also has a busy, buzzing fishing port and yachting Marina. From the main commercial port you are able to catch a ferry across to Morocco.
Motril has its own golf course, Los Moriscos, as well as two good beaches, Playa Granada and Playa Poniente. You may find Playa Poniente a little overdeveloped but it has some good facilities.
If you are visiting Motril in the winter months then taking a trip up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains can be a slightly odd experience. You could leave Motril basking in 20C+ and within 60 minutes be in the snow and at a ski resort in the Sierra Nevada.
