The main tourist towns of the Costa Tropical are Almunecar and La Herradura. You will find both of these towns on the Costa Tropical.
The Costa Tropical is a little known area of Spain that can be found south of Granada and to the east of Malaga and the Costa del Sol.
The area around La Herradura is rugged with the mountains of the Sierra Nevada tumbling down to the sea creating dramatic cliffs and back drops.
You will find small farming communities harvesting a good, regular crop of Almonds, Fruits, Avocados and Olives from the various villages that are dotted throughout the deep valleys that litter the area.
The dominant feature of the whole area is the Mountains. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are home to Spains highest peek and they are also the home of the bustling Ski resort that provides good skiing conditions from October to March each year.
The Coastline of la Herradura runs for approximately 19 kms and has a selection of good beaches and deserted coves. If you are a sand lover and stumble across a shingle beach simply move on to the next one both are on offer here.
To fly to La Herradura you need to fly into Malaga Airport or Granada Airport. Malaga is the larger of the two airports and has many flights on offer but is around 90 kms away.
Granada Airport is closer at around 85 kms but only really handles a few flights per day. If you are flying from the UK then Ryanair fly to Granada from Liverpool and London Stansted on a daily basis.
The easiest way to get to and from either of these airports to la Herradura is by hiring a car. The transfers on offer to La Herradura are simply a taxi or a bus journey involving changes so it is probably cheaper and quicker to hire a car.
We have found that Car-Hire.es generally provide the best deals on La Herradura car hire.
