 Girona Airport has been transformed over the last few years and is the perfect Airport to fly to if you want to explore the Costa Brava area or even head up into the south-western end of France.
In 1993 Girona Airport was only receiving around 275,000 passengers but since then Ryanair has made Girona one of their main European bases.
Girona Airport now receives large numbers of flights from around 23 different European Airports.
The services at Girona Airport are still fairly basic and there is not currently a train service in operation. If you want to use the train you have to get a taxi into Girona City first.
Ryanair have also made an effort to provide a better transport service from the Airport and have several shuttle buses in operation one of which goes directly into Barcelona City center which is around 100 kms away.
Many people choose to hire a car when arriving at Girona Airport as this gives the freedom to come and go as you please and depending on where you are traveling to you could end up paying less than the costs of return taxis.
If you are staying in one of the Costa Brava resorts such as Estartit or Lloret de Mar then the drive times should be no more than 40 minutes but from Girona you have the option of driving to many different places up and down the coast. You could even be in France within an hour or Andorra which is high up in the Pyrenees.
