The Costa Tropical is situated on the south coast of Spain. It is to the east of Malaga and the Costa del Sol, to the south of Granada and the Sierra Nevada Mountain range and to the west of Almeria.
If you are traveling to the Costa Tropical you are probably heading for Almunecar, La Herradura, Salobrena or Motril.
These of course are just the main tourist areas but there are many other small towns and villages throughout the Costa Tropical.
Two Airports service the Costa Tropical, Granada Airport and Malaga Airport.
Granada Airport is inland and north of the coast. At the present time Granada Airport only receives a small amount of passenger traffic but Ryanair fly here from Liverpool and Luton in the UK everyday.
Malaga Airport is actually on the Costa del Sol, not Costa Tropical but it is just 90 kms away from La Herradura and the journey can be made by car in just over an hour.
The Costa Tropical gets its name from the lush green valleys and hills that line the region. These valleys and hills are home to some great farming communities that are still producing a huge volume of Fruits, Avocados, Almonds and Olives. In the areas around Salobrena you will find huge areas just growing sugar cane.
The Costa Tropical has managed on the whole to escape package tourism but this is both a blessing and a curse. The good side is that it is relatively undiscovered and remains largely UN spoilt. The downside is that it is difficult to get to with no train service and a bus service that will always involve a change on longer journeys.
The only way to really see and enjoy the Costa Tropical is by having your own car.
We have found that the best prices are normally available at the airports and that offers Car-Hire.es some of the best deals around.
