 The Costa Dorada stretches from Barcelona in the north and then 200 kms south to the river Ebre and translated means ?golden coast?.
The fine white sandy beach slope gently into the warm, blue Mediterranean Sea and is ideal for both sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts. The best beaches fro children can be found around Salou and Cambrils where there are safe shallow waters and large wide beaches that are backed by a choice of cafes and bars.
In Salou itself you will find a resort town with a wonderful promenade that stretches for a few kilometers and off set against well planted and stocked flower beds and some great fountains. You can also find a whole range of restaurants and entertainment that suites every pocket and taste.
The main airports that service the Costa Dorada are Barcelona and Reus. Reus Airport is where most of the charter flights arrive but Ryanair have also introduced a service from the UK and you can fly direct to Reus with Ryanair from London Luton, London Stantsed, Liverpool, Dublin and Frankfurt.
You will find that fish is the main staple diet of the Costa Dorada but there is always a wonderful selection of meats fruits and vegetables available in the supermarkets and Spanish restaurants. With the local orchards and fields supplying Hazel nuts, almonds, every type of soft fruit and of course Olives.
One of the largest theme parks in Spain, Port Aventura, can also be found on the Costa Dorada, just between Salou and Tarragona. If you do take the kids here allow a whole day!
All in all the Costa Dorada is an easy place to get with plenty to see and do whilst you are here. The easiest and most cost effective way to explore the Costa Dorada is by hiring a car.
