The Balearic Islands are an archipelago of five Islands running 190 miles long of the Spanish Coast.
The four main islands that people visit are Mallorca (Majorca), Ibiza, Menorca & Formentera.
As a side point roughly translated Majorca and Menorca mean Bigger Island and Smaller Island!
So Mallorca is obviously the larger of the islands and it is no coincidence that it is also the one that has been largely adapted to suit the mass tourist trade. Parts of Mallorca such as Magaluf are large built up areas with busy beaches and lots of shops and facilities to suit the package tourist. If however you can get out into the countryside you can find some get areas that are far from the maddening crowd.
Ibiza is known throughout the world for its party life. Ibiza has for a long time been the main ?Clubbing destination? for Europe and some of the largest and most outrageous clubs can be found of this wonderful Island.
Apart from its laidback, Hippy lifestyle, Ibiza again has some beautiful scenery, some great sandy beaches and rocky coves that are offset against crystal clear blue water. In order to cater for the clubbing crowd Ibiza?s tourist trade has developed in a different way and you can find some great ?Boutique Hotels? and a little further inland a selection of some of the best rural hotels in Spain.
The other main Islands of Menorca and Formentera are an altogether different holiday experience, more laid back and with less emphasis on the package tourist.
We believe that in order to appreciate these wonderful Islands it is best to pre-book your car hire and to set aside at least part of your holiday for a bit of exploring.
