Featuring one of the most beautiful bays along the Mediterranean coast, Altea is located at the northern end of the Costa Blanca. Altea is around 50 kms from Alicante Airport, 10kms from Benidorm and 120kms south of Valencia.
Protected by mountains this hill top coastal village can be accessed easily by car from either the main autopista (Motorway) A7 exit 65 or via the older main road the N332 which runs from Alicante to Valencia.
Many people who come for their holidays in Altea don?t bother exploring outside of the town itself but I think it is a great base from which to explore the Costa Blanca.
You can easily reach Benidorm which is a complete contrast to Altea, lively, busy and full of life, Benidorm is also where you will find Terra Mittica Theme Park, a great day out for the kids.
If you are staying in the town start by heading off to the old quarter, gently wind your way through narrow streets that head up to the plaza and the beautiful, blue domed church of the Virgin del Consuelo. These narrow winding streets are full of white fronted, Spanish Town houses with hanging baskets and window boxes that would put most gardeners to shame.
Mixed in with the houses are shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that are there to help you forget about the steep, narrow streets outside. Within this part of the town you will also find a hotch potch of gift shops, art galleries and craft shops.
Our advice is to spend as much time as you can exploring Altea but also to spend some time in your hire Car exploring the delights of the Costa Blanca.
