The sea front of Benidorm is characterised all year round by the fine, golden sands and clear waters of its well-cared for beaches. The two small, sand and rock coves that lie to the north are ideal for diving or a quiet swim. Escaleta point marks the start of the bustling promenade and the crowded Poniente beach whose full facilities and lively atmosphere make it so popular all year round. Poniente beach to the south of the port competes with the attractiveness and facilities of Levante.
The orientation of these beaches is such that they both receive sunlight until sunset in winter, and until after 8pm in summer. In the section between them running parallel to the old town centre and sheltered by mount Canfali lies the small cove of Mal Pas opposite the Isle of Benidorm, a paradise for diving enthusiasts. In addition to its well-known and excellent range of leisure activities, Benidorm has plenty of sports facilities with a sailing school in the club and several international diving centres thanks to the lush and interesting seabed around the Isle of Benidorm which has been declared a marine nature reserve.
